Google Trending now API: daily trending searches by country
Google's Trending now page shows what is spiking in Search right now. Here is how to get it as data, now that the old daily trends endpoint is gone.
https://trends.google.com/trending/rss?geo=US (change geo to any country code). For the full list with search volume, percent increase, categories and related searches, use a scraper of the Trending now page.Why your old code broke
pytrends.trending_searches(pn="united_states") and realtime_trending_searches() call endpoints that Google retired when daily trends moved to trends.google.com/trending. They return 404, and since the pytrends repository is archived, there will be no fix.
Option 1: the public RSS feed (free)
import urllib.request, xml.etree.ElementTree as ET
NS = {"ht": "https://trends.google.com/trending/rss"}
url = "https://trends.google.com/trending/rss?geo=US"
root = ET.fromstring(urllib.request.urlopen(url).read())
for item in root.iter("item"):
print(item.findtext("title"), item.findtext("ht:approx_traffic", namespaces=NS), item.findtext("pubDate"))
What you get per item: title, approximate traffic (for example 2000+), start time, a picture and a few news articles. In our test on 3 October 2026 the US feed returned 10 items.
Limits: only the top items, approximate traffic buckets, no percent increase, no category and no list of related searches.
Option 2: the full Trending now list
The Trending now page itself has many more items per country and richer fields. Our Google Trends Scraper reads it for any list of countries and time windows (past 4, 24, 48 hours or 7 days). In the same test it returned 88 trends for South Korea in the past 24 hours. If the page is unavailable it falls back to the RSS feed.
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
title | Trending search |
searchVolume | 200000 |
increasePercentage | 1000 |
startedAt, active | ISO time, still trending or not |
categories | ["Sports"] |
relatedQueries | Other searches grouped into the trend |
exploreUrl | Link to the Explore page for the trend |
import gtrends # https://github.com/ctriolab/google-trends-python, export APIFY_TOKEN=...
for t in gtrends.trending_now(["US", "GB", "KR"], hours=24, limit=25):
print(t["geo"], t["title"], t["searchVolume"], t["increasePercentage"], t["categories"])
Schedule it hourly on Apify and send new trends to Slack, Google Sheets or a webhook, for newsrooms, social teams and content planning.

FAQ
Why does pytrends trending_searches() return 404?
It calls Google's old daily trends endpoint, which no longer exists since Google moved daily trends to the Trending now page (trends.google.com/trending). pytrends is archived, so the method will not be fixed.
Is the Google Trends RSS feed free?
Yes. https://trends.google.com/trending/rss?geo=US is public. In our test on 3 October 2026 it returned 10 items with title, approximate traffic, start time, picture and news articles.
Does the official Google Trends API include Trending now?
No. The official alpha announced in July 2025 covers consistently scaled interest data by time and region. It does not document a Trending now or daily trends method.
